(28) Foster Customer Devotion

To foster customer loyalty that borders on customer devotion, Starbucks follows an unwritten but business-innate marketing mindset of enriching a customer’s life, not entrapping it.

Starbucks seeks to captivate (not capture) and enrich (not entrap) the lives of its customers through rewarding everyday moments. The company understands a great coffee moment can provide customers with hope, inspiration, and connectivity. A Starbucks coffee moment offers customers a semblance of hope in their cluttered lives. Many of Starbucks’ most devoted customers seek refuge from their workplace, their home life, and the daily commute in-between. To these customers, Starbucks is a place where they can go to regroup, reconnect, recharge, and rest.

  1. Hi, there.

Instead of just doing “rest” as suggested above, I’d prefer “restructure”
much more. How does that grab you, Starbucks Addicts?

Regroup, reconnect, recharge, and (my experience!) restructure.

    Strive & thrive !

  2. Just returning from a long weekend in London, and witnessing Starbucks there (There’s still none where i live in Amsterdam, despite the big European Mothership planted here in the harbor years ago) I must say they are pushing their customercard quite heavily with huge store windows displaying them from top to bottom. Is this considered entrapping?

  3. Jasper … I view it more as Starbucks being aggressive in getting customers to use their \”stored-valued\” card known as the Starbucks Card. In my opinion, Starbucks doesn\’t entrap customers by having them load dollars on to the Card instead of using cash.

Is getting more customers to use the Starbucks Card more advantageous, profit-wise, for Starbucks? Oh yes.

But it is also viewed by lots of regular customers as being a more convenient way to pay for their beverages. By being more convenient, the Starbucks Card enrichs a customer\’s experience and doesn\’t entrap them.
